Gestural marks and intuitive gestures

A morning in the studio experimenting with pigment dyes. I worked on heavy gloss paper which absorbed the dyes beautifully (Gravue Empire Gloss 350gsm, provided by G.F. Smith, Hull) 640x900mm.I worked on several pieces at the same time to allow drying and to maintain spontaneity. I used a limited pallet of red, black and blue.

The application of pigment became rhythmic. I enjoyed the freedom of making intuitive gestures, letting the pigment pool and dry around the objects forming interesting edges.

About Annemarie Tickle

I am a Lecturer in Textiles at Hull School of Art and Design. As a visual artist I am interested in atmospheric conditions and events and how the scale of nature makes mans mark on the landscape look insignificant. I enjoy the act of doing and getting my hands dirty so my practice is intensly process led. I use a wide range of media but am particular interested in dying techniques.
