Open Screen: Rain

Rain: Open Screen

I love the expressive process of open screen printing and I have been asked to run a day workshop in this technique at Studio 11 Gallery in Hull. I want to produce some new pieces for the ‘Work in Progress’ exhibition my M.A. group is putting on over the summer and I thought it would be nice to have some fresh examples to show for the workshop. I produced this one inspired by my digital drawing: Rain (see previous post). This vertical composition is a break from the long horizontal pieces I have been working on over the past months. I used layering and mark-making techniques to build up the linear composition. I hope to carry on exploring this as I enjoy it so much, particularly the unpredictable element.

About Annemarie Tickle

I am a Lecturer in Textiles at Hull School of Art and Design. As a visual artist I am interested in atmospheric conditions and events and how the scale of nature makes mans mark on the landscape look insignificant. I enjoy the act of doing and getting my hands dirty so my practice is intensly process led. I use a wide range of media but am particular interested in dying techniques.

Stunning. Manages to look controlled and accidental simultaneously!

    When is the workshop?

Great picture, more of a downpour, got a grey lightness to it though, like one of those rainy Sundays that you spend with someone special.

    • That is a lovely description Richard. I saw this downpour whilst walking at Paull, it was in the distance over the docks I was fascinated by it as it appeard so unnatural, a totally straight column. Thank you for continuing to look and comment.

I really like this and the piece above in a later post showing a sudden deluge. I’ve tried illustrating this theme several times and your more abstract approach really appeals to me, more than my more representative sketches.

    • Thank you for looking at my work and your positive comments, I have taken a look at your work and was inspired by your passionate emotional approach, it is so hard to capture and respond to the awe inspiring fleeting moments the elements throw at us, so brief, but an enoyable challenge.
